In 1984 Gary Mark Smith earned a BS in Journalism from the William Allen White School
of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas.
In 1996 he earned an MA in Fine Art Photography on full fellowship at Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana.

Gary Mark Smith has authored four successful street photography books,
and his work has appeared or has been featured in (among others):
